Any App On Demand To Windows And OSX

Software2 know that higher education institutions need the ability to offer end users access to any application wherever they are, no matter what device they're using.

With the latest release of S2Hub, version 1.7, we took a major step towards that goal with our integration with Microsoft’s RemoteApp. S2Hub can now decide, based on a user’s environment, the best way to deliver their app to them on Windows or OSX.

With 91% of students surveyed expecting their institution to provide them with an app store for accessing their course applications, the pressure is on for institutions to be able to provide such a service to their end users. Unfortunately, doing so is not a simple endeavour when users are expecting to be able access resources from any location on a wealth of different devices.

One of the big frustrations for institutions trying to meet this demand is that each OS has some means of managing and delivering applications. As an example, an institution could utilise Cloudpaging for delivering their Windows apps, Casper Suite for deploying to OSX, and a VDI solution for everyone else.

The problem lies in the missing piece - the single point of contact that ties it all together!

The development team at Software2 have always been devoted to developing solutions that solve problems for our customers. We started by solving the problem of enforcing license compliance when opening up services to the worldwide access, and now we're tackling the pain of providing users with a single point of contact for all of their apps.

Earlier this year, our friends at the University of Surrey presented a vision of using a RemoteApp infrastructure to deliver Windows apps to Mac users at our Europe S2 User Day, at Derby University. Working with Surrey, we've taken that vision and realized it in the latest release of S2Hub; version 1.7.

This release marks a major step towards that “any app, any device, anywhere” goal. S2Hub can now decide, based on a user’s environment, the best way to deliver their app, whether that be natively on Windows using Cloudpaging, or through a RemoteApp session running the Cloudpaged application on a remote server. As far as the end user is concerned, the experience is exactly the same; the experience is awesome!
